A/C Repair on a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder?

My A/C does not work on my 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. Besides blowing out hot air, when I turn on the A/C button, it makes a small groaning noise. Does anyone know why it makes the noise, and if I need a part replaced what is it, and how much is it going

Well no one in the auto a/c Business can tell you what the problem is w/o any certainty on line it is one of those things that need be analyzed on sight the noise you are hearing could be coming from the compressor and as you state 2.5 lbs of 12 note
