size of the coolant reservoir for 1989 jeep cherokee?

How large is the coolant reservoir suppose to be on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee suppose to be because mne seems to small and does't fit the space it is in
Mines about 1/2 gallon or so.. most of the replacement ones are a bit smaller now adays. I stuck a 1/4" thick piece of wood under mine and it straps down just fine.
