What is wrong with my tranmsmission in bmw 740i?

In my 01 740i when i put in reverse it doesnt have any power,even when i press on gas it just seats there.But all other gear works like Drive,sports and other stuff. What is wrong with it??Please help.

Reverse not engaging is the first sign of a transmission going out.
